Beavers are large, semiaquatic rodents of the temperate Northern Hemisphere. There are two extant species in the genus Castor, the North American beaver and the Eurasian beaver. Beavers are the second-largest living rodents after the capybaras.
Beavers are slow on land, but are good swimmers, and can stay under water for as long as 15 minutes.
