Pteranodon - with Movable Jaw, a large, Late Cretaceous, North American pterosaur living 86-84.5 million years ago. The model of an adult male has an articulated jaw. Possibly the best known and most popular of the pterosaurs and was common around the shores of the great inland sea that covered much of middle of what is now the United States of America. Pterosaurs were not dinosaurs but lived at the same time and are related to them. The wingspan of an average adult male was 5.6 meters (18 ft) with the largest known measuring 6.25 meters (20.5 ft) from wingtip to wingtip. Pteranodon had a long bony skull crest, which may have been used for stability in flight or as a rudder.
